Student spotlight:

George

"One of the best things about being a UAL student is the freedom! It's the ability to be who you want, when you want. It's time to break boundaries and defeat the norm in a world surrounded by creativity and endless opportunity. UAL is about one thing and that's YOU!"

George felt welcomed at UAL from the very beginning. He liked how the UAL environment encourages students to thrive and flourish in their fields and to become the best version of themselves.

"I chose to study at UAL as there really wasn't any other place I'd rather be! For me, UAL was a place of acceptance from the moment I walked through the doors on the open day – I finally felt at home and knew there wasn't any other option for me."

During his studies, George had the opportunity to feature his design collection in the store windows of H&M. He is thankful for the opportunity to showcase his vision and imagination in a public platform.

"It was an amazing opportunity to display my talent and hard work to a much wider audience. This was my first taste of what could be ahead for me!"

One piece of work George is particularly proud of is his second-year final project, where they were asked to explore ‘aesthetics and identity’. He designed a collection around the true-story of his relationship with his father. George wanted to mix his father’s idea of the son he wanted, and the son George turned out to be.

“I created the campest, most flamboyant, opulently fabulous sportswear inspired by the shapes and silhouettes found within the sport of football.”

Living in London, you have the world on your doorstep. You have access to some of the greatest galleries in the world to explore and source inspiration from for all your projects. George loves strutting his stuff at fashion week every February and September.

“London has some of the most in-demand exhibitions and shows that people travel miles to see and the best part is that being a student it’s almost 100% free!”

George believes his time studying at UAL has been a chance to break boundaries and challenge the norm in his field. He thinks these opportunities come from being surrounded by creativity and endless opportunity.

"Don't be afraid to challenge not only yourself but to challenge the system! UAL is about one thing and that's YOU!"
